He was born December 8, 1926, in Berrien County to the late Morris Columbus and Eliza Jane Wilson Sumner. He was a retired farmer and member of pine Grove missionary Baptist Church. He was also a former Berrien County Commissioner and veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Florence Lott Sumner of West Berrien; three daughters, Peggy (Wayne) Ellis of Lenox, Danita (Dane) Perkins of Nashville and Angie (Phillip) Holbrook of West Berrien; two brothers, Elmer "Doc" Sumner of West Berrien and Billy Sumner of Fernandina Beach, FL; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held September 22 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Potts, Rev. Mike Bennett and Rev. Stan Nix officiating. Interment was in Nashville Memorial Gardens. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
