He was born Sept. 23, 1934 in Sand Run, West Virginia to the late Charles and Gladys Hilliard Townsend. He was a retired CPO US Navy with 26 years service and was the chief maintenance officer for the Navy’s famed Blue Angels p precision flying team. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Kibbe Townsen of Nashville; daughter, Gladys Temples of Nashville; step-son, Donald Cranford of Green Cove Springs, FL; two sisters, Mary Kay Varga and Wilma Deloris Rapport, both of Ohio; three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William Edward “Bill” Townsend, John Arnold Townsend, Andrew Jackson Townsend and one sister, Norma Jean Eddings. The family has honored his request for cremation. A memorial service was held on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
