He was born on May 11, 1931 in Berrien County to Ben and Ethel Jowers Vickers. He was retired from Coastal Plain Experiment Station with the University of Georgia; was an avid fox and bobcat hunter and was known to many as "Catman," and was a member of Rowetown Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Effie Lee Browing Vickers of Alapaha; two daughters, Deborah and Buddy Barfield, Hahira, Kathy and James Griffin, Alapaha; two sons, Danny and Betty Vickers, Sylvester, James and Donna Vickers, Alapaha; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby Vickers and Gene Vickers, both of Adel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16 at Rowetown Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Gibbs, the Rev. Clarence Luke and the Rev. Glenn Rowell officiating. Burial will be in Rowetown Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville.
