Born July 20, 1914, in Cook County to the late Marion and Mamie Gray Godwin, she was a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was initiated into the Nashville Chapter in 1953, became an Emeritus Member in 1977 and received her 50-year pin in February of 2003. Throughout her years, she served the chapter and district in nearly all stations, including Worthy Matron. She was especially dedicated to coordinating food and flowers to honor a member during times of bereavement. She was also a long-time and faithful member of Vickers Church. Her passion in life included cooking for her family and friends and fishing at the family pond. She was for many years very active in the Berrien County Unit of the American Cancer Society. She was privileged to have had the honor to christen a ship in Tampa Bay during WWII. She was a devoted wife and homemaker to her late husband, Ernest B. Vickers. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Godwin Beasley; two brothers, James Godwin and Leland Godwin; daughter-in-law, Billie Jo Vickers. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Bill Tomberlin of McLeansboro McLeansboro, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Wanda Vickers of Cartersville; son, Bobby W. Vickers of Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. She also leaves behind m many wonderful friends. Funeral services were held June 1 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Ho Home with the Revs. Ronnie Lawson and Jim Williams officiating. Debbie Weaver sa sang "In the Garden" and "Star in the East," accompanied by Sara Crow. Interment was in Westview Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Sonny Griner, Paul Nix, Tony Price, Homer Lang, Ronald Griner Griner, David Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers were A.T. Bragdon, Jimmy Porter, Lannie Weaver, Edgar Parrish, P.H. Danforth, Earl Hughes, G.W. Pearman, Joe Watson. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
