A native of Berrien County, GA, Mr. Walker was born April 30, 1939 son of the late S.J. and Velora Rowan Walker. Mr. Walker retired from the U.J. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after serving 20 years. After retirement he worked for many years as an over the road truck driver until becoming disabled. His church membership was at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ocilla, GA. He was preceded in death by a grandson Chandler Joiner. Survivors include: Wife, Betty Hunkapiller Walker of Sparks, GA, 2 daughters; Sandy Porter and husband Brian of Alma, GA, Kacy Stanley and husband John of Nashville, GA, Stepdaughter, Angie Joiner and husband Russell of Douglas, GA; son Jeff Walker of Nashville, GA. step-son Wayne Mixon and wife Linda of Nashville, GA. Sister, Carolyn Giddens of Nashville, GA, Brothers, Ronald Walker and wife Martha of Nashville, GA, Charles Walker and wife Nelda of Hazlehurst, GA, 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Walker were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Willacoochee, GA with Rev. Bill Huffstuttler and Rev. Russell Joiner officiating. Special music included "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You" rendered by Soloist/Guitarist Jason Hunkapiller with taped accompaniment. Also "I'll Be Waiting At The River For You" by the Cady Sisters was presented by tape. Soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude was played by Bonnie Kunberger pianist. The interment with Military Honors provided by a Navy Honor Guard from Albany, GA followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Daniel Hunkapiller, Kenneth Hunkapiller, Brian Porter, Ray Steverson, Johnny Giddens, Ralph Lott and Timmy Hall.
