She was born Aug. 7, 1913 in Cook County to the late James Berry and Emily Powell Herndon. She was a homemaker and member of the Ray City United Methodist Church. She was the widow of William Penn “Bill” Walker who died in 1995 and w was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Powell, who died in 2008, Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jo (Benjie) Meeks of Ray City and Brenda (Sidney) Hobbs of St. Augustine, FL; son, William P. Walker, Jr. of Ray City; son-in-law, Elbert (Jan) Powell of Ray City; six grandchildren; five g great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral home with Rev. Russ Elkins officiating. Grandchildren sang “Wind Beneath My Wings” and congregational hymns included “I’ll Fly Away,” “Sweet Bye and Bye,” “Rock of Ages,” and “ Amazing Grace.” Renee Gaskins served as pianist. Interment was in Westview Center. Selected family members served as pallbearers. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
