Talmadge Webb, 83, of Tifton, Comptroller Emeritus of Abraham B Baldwin Agricultural College, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2010 at his residence. F Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist C Church of Tifton with the Rev. Stephen L. Webb, the Rev. Sam Rogers and the R Rev. Bruce Sack officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Albritton - Beaumont Funeral D Directors, Pallbearers will be nephews of Mr. Webb, including Garth Webb, Johnny Pat Webb Jr., Lamar Webb, Sonny Griner, Cliff Webb, Doug Morrow and Chris St. John. H Honorary pallbearers will be the Loyalty Sunday School Class of First United M Methodist Church and Tifton Rotary Club. Mr. Webb was born in Ray City, Berrien County, on Nov. 19, 1926, the youngest of six sons of Lossie H. and Vida P. Webb, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by four of his brothers as well as his son-in-law, Ed Bedgood. He was retired from ABAC after serving 30 years as comptroller. Upon his r retirement, he was awarded the title of Comptroller Emeritus by the Board of R Regents of the University System of Georgia. He also received a framed r resolution of commendation signed by Gov. Joe Frank Harris. While at ABAC, Mr. Webb served on the Board of Directors of the ABAC Foundation for 30 years, at one time serving as the secretary-treasurer of the F Foundation. In 2000, he was placed back on the board of directors with Emeritus s status. He had served under five presidents of the college and five chancellors o of the University System of Georgia. He was awarded the Carlton Award for Excellence in Administration in 1977 and he also was a recipient of the Pacesetter award by the student body. Upon his retirement, the ABAC Alumni Association awarded him an honorary alumnus citation. He was also a member of the ABAC President’s Club. Mr. Webb was a member of the Tifton First United Methodist Church where he had bee been a member since 1945. He had served in many positions, including chairman of of the administrative board on two different occasions. He served as lay leader for many years. He was elected several years to re represent the church at its Annual South Georgia Conference as a delegate. He ha had served as president of the Loyalty Sunday School Class. He served on the board of directors of the Methodist Home for Children and Y Youth for more than 16 years, serving on the finance and strategic planning c committees while on the board, and was a loyal supporter of the Home in Macon a and in Valdosta. Mr. Webb was a member of the Tifton Rotary Club, having joined in 1959, and served as its president in 1979-80. In 1988, he was awarded a Paul Harris Fe Fellow by the Rotary Club. Upon his retirement, he became a member of the Tift Regional Medical Center A Auxiliary where he volunteered 4,400 hours of service. He served as its p president for two years. Mr. Webb was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army for two years. His other community involvement included being a member of the Hospice board, a board member at Brother Charlie’s Rescue Mission and w working with Meals on Wheels. After his retirement from ABAC, he joined the staff of Albritton-Jones Funeral Home, which later became Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. He has been an i integral member of the firm for over 22 years. Among Mr. Webb’s survivors are his wife, Maurolyse Webb, of Tifton, to whom he had been married for 59 years; his daughter, Cheryl Bedgood of Macon; his son, Charles H. Webb of Orange Park, Fla.; his four grandchildren, Heather, Jennifer and Jimmy Bedgood and Michelle Webb Wilkerson; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin Jacob Smith and Tristyn Kaileigh Webb; and by one brother, John P. Webb Sr Sr. of Nashville.
