Born January 30, 1923, in Quitman to the late Charles Marvin and Janie Bass White, she grew up in Valdosta where she graduated from Valdosta State College. She also studied piano at the University of Miami’s Conservatory of Music. She started her 31 year teaching career in the Valdosta school system and retired from the Tift County Board of Education. A very active member of Tifton First United Methodist Church for over 55 years, she served on the administrative board, Club 55, kitchen band, former chairman of UMW Circle, and the music committee. Until she retired, she served the music ministry as pianist and organist for over 35 years. She was also a member of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College President’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years. J. Talmadge Webb, who died August 6, 2010, sisters, Janie Morrow and Dorothy St. John; brother, Peyton White; son-in-law, James Bedgood, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Deborah Lastinger Webb. Survivors include her children, Cheryl W. Bedgood of Macon and Charles H. Webb of Orange Park, FL; grandchildren, Heather Bedgood, Jennifer Bedgood, Jimmy Bedgood Bedgood, Michelle and Barry Wilkerson; great-grandchildren, Gavin Smith, Dalton Hunnicutt Hunnicutt, Tristyn Webb, Joshua Wilkerson; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Tifton First United Methodist Church on March 13 at at 3 p.m. with the Revs. Sam Rogers, Stephen Webb and Bruce Sack officiating. Interment was in Oakridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Bedgood, Jr., Garth Webb, Chris St. John, Vance A. M Morrow, Jr., Johnny Pat Webb, Doug Morrow. Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors of Tifton was in charge of arrangements.
