Wheeler, who resided at 453 Hull Court and was for a long period a shut-in, succumbed to her lengthy illness early last Thursday morning, September 17. She was confined to Askew Memorial Hospital here at the time of her passing. Although she had been unable to leave her home for the last few years, Mrs. Wheeler’s forebearance was both inspirational and endearing to those who knew her. Born in this county on February 5, 1875, she was 89 years of age at the time of her demise. She was the former Miss Ada Stone, a daughter of the late Dave and Becky Harris Stone, and was married to the late Will Wheeler who preceded her in death in May, 1957. Mrs. Wheeler spent her entire lifetime within the area of her birth, was a woman of devout character and a member of the Poplar Springs Church. Funeral services were conducted from the Nashville Church of God at 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, September 19, with the Reverend Fred Hesters officiating at the presentation of the final rite. Music was provided by a mixed quartet that included Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kent, Carlton Griner, and Roberson Gaskins, with Mrs. Carl Wilkerson accompanying at the piano. Two traditional hymns on consolation, Farther Along and Precious Memories, were sung. Mrs. Wheeler was accompanied to her final resting place in Griner Cemetery by an active cortege cmposed of Donald Rowan, Lamar Wheeler, Jessie Sutton, J.C. May, J.R. May, and Bobby Stone. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Dovie Thornton and Mrs. Ruby Hillhouse, both of Lakeland, Fla. and mrs. Cora Stone of Nashville, and one son, Lucious Wheeler, also of Nashville. Also remaining is one brother, Joe Stone, Nashville, twenty-eight grandchildren and forty-six great-grandchildren. All arrangemetns were completed by Lovein Funeral Home.
