He was born Nov. 23, 1916 in Decatur, Co., Ga. to the late Charles P. and Martha Blackwell Whidden. For many years he owned and operated Whidden’s Western Auto and was most recently associated with Whidden Home Furnishings. H He was a member of Nashville First Baptist Church where he previously served as t the Chairman of the Board of Deacons and Sunday School Superintendent and S Sunday School teacher. He was a Charter member of the Nashville Rotary Club and s served as its First President. He was an Army Veteran of WWII where he served i in the Pacific Theatre. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ethel Long Whidden of Nashville; daughter, Anne Whidden Young, Las Vegas, Nev.; three sons, Jim (Sue) Whidden, Nashville, Jack (Scharline) Whidden, Moorehead, Ky., Johnny Whidden, Fitzgerald; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles P. Whidden, Jr. and a sister, Billie Tovell. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010 in Nashville F First Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Luke, the Rev. Billy Southerland and t the Rev. Owen Williams officiating. Interment will be held in Westview C Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lee Whidden, Pope Langdale, John Whidden, Don Shaw, B Ben Crum, Don Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Jackson Moore, Buddy Bostic, Jeff Johnson and members o of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class.
