 Irene Whitten, 70, of Nashville died July 28, 2011 at the residence of her d
daughter in Ray City.
 She was born March 11, 1941 in Cherokee, AL to the late Andrew and Sarah 
McCormick Maton. She was a homemaker and was employed with the Berrien County B
Board of Education as a custodian at Berrien High School. She was the widow of W
William Howard Whitten who died in 1983, and was also preceded in death by a s
son, Johnny Howard Whitten, who died in 1982. She attended the Nashville H
Holiness Church.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Edna and  Elton Griffin of Ray City; 
grandson, Billy Griffin of Ray City, two great-grandchildren, Lexi and 
Chandler; three sisters, Edna Nasworthy of Fitzgerald, Lucille Reece of Tifton, 
Mildred Jenkins of Boaz, AL; four brothers, Edgar Lee Maton of Boaz, Ralph Maton
Maton of Tifton, Robert Lee Maton of Cartersville, William Maton of South C
Carolina.
 Funeral service were held on July 31 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral 
Home with Rev. Johnny Smith and Albert Harnage officiating. Musical selections 
included “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” “Send Your Best Angel for 
Momma,” “Wait a Little Longer, Please Jesus,” and “I Want Us To Be Together in 
Heaven.”
 Interment was in Westview Cemetery.
 Pallbearers included Billy Griffin, Alan Jackson, Billy Jack Griffin, Lucas 
McFall, Rodney Baggett, James Nasworthy.
 Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
