She was born on a farm near Lakeland, GA on March 2 1922, the second of two daughters of sharecroppers, Mitchell and Willie Jackson. Ollie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lewis Irving Williams, Sr. in 1998, as well as; her parents, her older sister, Norma Mae Coates, and her daughter-in-law, Karen Elrod Williams. Ollie graduated valedictorian of Lakeland High School, class of 1939, and went to work in the office of the Governor in Atlanta. With the start of WWII she returned to her hometown to work at the newly constructed Army Air Corps Moody Field. She met Irving Williams in the spring of 1942 and they married August 13th. They welcomed their first child in June 1943 while Irving, Sr. was serving onboard the USS Greer, a US Navy destroyer on North Atlantic convoy duty. At the end of the war they settled in Jacksonville, FL, where their other two children were born in 1947 and 1952. The family relocated to Tampa in August of 1964. While her children were growing up, Ollie was a loving, dedicated mother and housewife. She then became a Licensed Practical nurse having worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa for over 20 years and t then volunteered for 20 years. Survivors include two sons, Joe Williams of Lutz, FL and Irv (Pam) Williams of Oakland, CA; daughter, Becky (Bob) Courtney of St. Leo, FL; two grandchildren, Loren and Andrew Williams; great granddaughter, Chloe Rebecca Williams all of Lutz, as well as, two sisters-in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held February 11 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Fu Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Simmons officiating. Interment was in Long Bridge Cemetery. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
