He was a native of Nashville, the son of the late Gwen and O.B. Williams, and was a graduate of Berrien High School. He attended Young Harris College and ABAC and was a graduate of Valdosta State College with a Bachelor’s of Sociology. Later, he earned a Master’s degree in Divinity at Emory University in Atlanta. He recently received his fifty-year recognition of service at the annual United Methodist Conference in Savannah. He pastored numerous churches across the South Georgia Conference; including Leila/Weeks, Clyattville, Sparks, Bronwood/Smithfield, Powerville/Wesley Chapel, Roberta, Buenta Vista, Gordon, Vienna/Shiloh, Northview, Warner Robins, Sherwood, Columbus, and retired in Metter in 2002. Also, he presently pastored Tazwell United Methodist Church and served as interim pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Lyons. For many years, he chaired the outdoor ministries through the Council on Ministries of the South Georgia Conference, which included youth and adult camping and canoeing trips. He served on various committees within the districts in the South Georgia Conference. He served as chaplain for the Georgia Sheriff’s Department and was a member of the masonic Lodge in Berrien County. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Joyce Robinson Williams. Reverend Williams is survived by his wife, Joyce Bishop Williams of Lyons; son, Bart Williams and wife Teresa of Montgomery, AL; four daughters, Robin Williams Broughton and husband, Keith of Woodstock, Faith Bishop Cantrell and husband Rusty of Cadwell, Karen Bishop Cheney and husband Cliff of McDonough, and Karla Bishop Green and husband Toussant of Suwanee; sister, Linda Priest of Buford, six grandchildren, Autumn, Chase, Nikki, Kayla, Chloe, and Gavin; one great- grandchild, Kinsley; one niece, Laura and one nephew, Paul. Funeral services were held on July 24 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Lyons with Reverend Dr. Rick Lanford, Reverend Mike McAfee, and Reverend Jim Morrow officiating. Interment was in the Nashville Old City Cemetery with Reverend Ronnie Wills and Reverend Wayne McDaniel officiating. Pallbearers were Kendall Hudson, Kirk Little, Kyle Little, Reverend Matt Stewart, Fred Johnson, Paul Priest. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Methodist Children’s Home, 304 Pierce Ave., Macon, GA 31204 or the First United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, P.O.
