Born March 6, 1926, in Moultrie to the late Joseph E. and Minnie Pearl Goss Matthews, Sr., she worked with Civil Service for more than 20 years and was a member of Ray City United Methodist Church. She was a friend to everyone and would always come to the aid of anyone in need. She enjoyed doing what she described as “taking care of old people.” She owned and managed rental property in the Ray City and Barretts area, was an Auxiliary member of the Ray City Volunteer Fire Department and was Berrien County’s Checkers Champion. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen Bracewell of Enigma, Diane and Scott Cody of Hahira, Tammie and Bill Hurley of Valdosta; seven grandchildren, Pat Goforth, Peggy Sanders, Sandy Bracewell (Daphne), Leighan Goodwin (Marty), Mika Brogdon (Scottie), Ashley Turner (Josh), and Zack Hurley (April); 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, J.E. and Elois Matthews of Moultrie; a number of nieces and nephe nephews. Funeral services were held on Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Lakeland Chapel of Musi Music Funeral Services. Interment was in Beaver Dam Cemetery.
