He was born on May 4, 1939 and grew up in Albany. He served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam War veteran. He retired from the Air Force as a tech sergeant after 20-plus years and continued his dedicated service to his country for 23 years as a civil servant at Moody Air Force Base, where he retired in December 2001. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend to many and devout Christian. He was a longtime member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at New Bethel Baptist Church in Lowndes County. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Akins Wright of Ray City; his daughter, Janet Wells and husband, David, of Brandon, FL; sons, Gary Wright and wife, Petra, of Valdosta, Michael Wright of Ray City, Anthony "Tony" Wright and wife, Diane, of Moultrie, and Michael Powe and his wife, Mandy, of Nashville; grandchildren, BJ, Buddy, Heather, Sean and Lee Wright and Davin Wells; three sisters, Elizabeth Potts and husband, Thad, of Eastman, Margie Gilbert and husband, Robert, of Orlando, Joyce Williams and husband, Morris, of Atlanta; two brothers, Charlie Will Wright and wife, Nell, of Bainbridge, and Agnew Wright and wife, Maudie, of Bainbridge; his Aunt Marguerite Smith of Leesburg; numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Margret Ann Voorhees Wright, and his parents, Burtis and Josephine Ramsey Wright. Funeral services were held on Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Valdosta. Carson McLane Funeral Home of Valdosta was in charge of arrangements.
