Dortch" Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/bibb.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm Walter Bivins Walter Bivins/Bivens was born in Bibb County Georgia January 23, 1881. He was the son of Shaderic aka Shade Bivens born in Twiggs County, Georgia in 1857, and Rachel Pitts daughter of Balaam Pitts and Elizabeth Blount both born in Jones County, Gerogia. Shaderic Bivins who is the son of Lewis Bivens who was born in North Carolina and Mariah Bivens born in Jones County, Georgia. The Bivins family moved from Clinton to Macon around 1880 . There were according to the census records 15 children born to Shaderic and Rachel Bivens. Only being able to account for five of the children in my research, Juli Ann was the first born in 1871, then Walden in 1879 in Jones County. The other children have all been reported by oral family history as to being born in Macon, Bibb County though not accounted for in written or oral history by name. When Walter was 19 years old he lived in the Hazzard District and worked as a day labor for a convict camp. He was listed as married but no name given for his first wife. Walter was later married to Julia Kitchens born August 13, 1888 in Macon, Bibb County. Julia is the daughter of Hampton Kitchens born in 1848 in Houston County and Anna Armstrong born in ca. 1853 also in Houston County, Perry Georgia. Walter and Julia were married on April 18, 1908 in Macon Georgia, Bibb County. Walter and Julia had 17 children born into their union in Macon. The children were Walter May born in 1908, Arthur born in 1910, Mattie born in 1911, Etta Vera born 1912, Annie Lucille born in 1915, Hattie born in 1916, Aurelius born in 1918, Rachel born in 1920, Oscar Spivey born in 1919, James Taylor born in 1923, Maude Elizabeth born in 1926, Thomas Aquilla born in 1928, and George McCloy born in 1929. The other four children’s names are not known or the dates of birth. It is not known if these four children were still born on died in infancy. Walter was also listed on the WW 1 Draft Registration but no military records for Walter have been found. Walter is listed as a Mill Worker, a Day Laborer, and a Gardner as occupations he had in his life. Walter had a medical condition with his heart and hypertension which is what eventually was the cause of his demise. In the year of 1936 Walters wife and the rest of the family had migrated to the north to Chicago, Illinois. Walter did not agree on this move which the family wanted to better themselves and refuse to leave his beloved Macon Georgia. He remained in Macon with his two remaining sisters Annie Mae Ransom widower of Cambric Ransom , and his younger sister Elizabeth ( Lizzy ) McCrary and brother in law Joe McCrary. Sadly in two years of the departure of the rest of his immediate family, two years later Walter would be dead. At the time of his illness Walter Bivins lived on Spring Street Lane in Macon, Georgia. He was admitted to the Macon City Hospital on December 20, 1937 where Dr. M.M. Driscoll cared for him until he lost his battle to Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease and Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy Pyelonephritis on January 10, 1938 at 6:55 p.m. . Walter was 57 years old when he died. Walter Bivens is buried in the Fort Hill Cemetery on Clay Side, South Ridge, Row 512 in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. His sister Annie Mae Bivins Ransom is buried at Fort Hill Cemetery as well. I believe his mother Rachel Pitts Bivins in buried in the Kitchens Cemetery along with the youngest daughter Elizabeth Bivins McCrary, in Jones County Georgia.
