The ground floor was occupied by Causey & Satterwhite, grocers, and Hudman & Lanier, as bottling works. The second floor was used as a shoe shop, barbershop and sleeping apartments. The odor of burning kerosene attracted the attention of some of the citizens who were passing, which led to the discovery of the fire. Suspicion rests on J. L. CARPENTER, shoemaker, who is under arrest.
