ANDREWS Americus, Georgia April 18, 1876 William LAVARRE From The Macon Telegraph and Messenger, dated Saturday, February 21, 1874, p. 4 col. 3 FUNERAL NOTICES The friends and acquaintance of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. LAVARRE, are respectfully invited to attend the funeral of their son, Charles Ross, this afternoon. The funeral will take place at 3 o'clock at Rose Hill Cemetery. From The Macon Telegraph and Messenger, dated Wednesday, March 17, 1875, p. 4 col. 1 Dr. L.F.W. ANDREWS died suddenly at his home in Americus about one o'clock yesterday. He left Macon yesterday morning in his usual good health, and died soon after reaching his home. We heard no further particulars relative to this event. His remains will arrive here this afternoon. The time of internment has not yet been fixed. The deceased was well known in this State, having been connected with the press at different times in this city and elsewhere. In religion he was a Universalist, and during the late years of his life he has devoted much of his time to the propagation of the doctrines of that Church. He expected to have gone to Alabama tomorrow, on that mission, and upon his return, intended making a trip to Virginia. Dr. ANDREWS was prominent as a Mason, and was Past Grand Master of Odd Fellows. We presume these Orders will attend his funeral. From The Macon Telegraph and Messenger, dated Tuesday, April 18, 1876, p. 4 col. 1 Shocking Homicide in Twiggs On Saturday last about noon an employee at Myrick's Mill, by the name of William LAVARRE, was shot and instantly killed by John EDMUNSON, a young man about 17 or 18 years of age, under the following circumstances: A short time previous to the killing EDMONDSON had had some words, and perhaps blows, with LAVARRE in relation to soem matters pertaining to the mill business, LAVARRE refusing to fight him on account of his youth. On Saturday, a great crowd gathered at the mill, in consequence of a break in the dam, to catch fish, EDMONSON, being one of the number. LAVARRE apprehending no trouble while on his way to his dinner was hailed by EDMONDSON. Seeing that he was under the influence of liquor LAVARRE paid no attention to his call and continued on his way to his dwelling, only a short distance off. Whereupon EDMONDSON drew his pistol and before he could prevented fired at LAVARRE, the ball striking him in the back of the head, close to the ear, and killing him on the spot in full presence of his wife, who was waiting for him in the door of her house. The community is very much incensed and the murderer would have been severely dealt with but for the fact that he immediately took to the swamp and has not yet been apprehended. His widow is the daughter of the late Dr. L.F.W. ANDREWS, and formerly the widow of Charles ROSS, who died in Texas some time ago. I have not located LaVARRE's grave. LFW ANDREWS is buried in Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, GA. Charles is at Rose Hill as is his mother and another brother. 1875 March 2 Dr. Theodosius Bartow Ford Died February 28th in Marietta 3 Tribute of Respect to Brother Henry Herman Native of Germany 6 George Walter Kimbrew 14 Wife of Mr. H.
