Argus – Week of November 4, 1890 TOM WOOLFOLK HUNG He dies protesting his innocence to the last Tom Woolfolk, the wholesale murderer of Bibb County, was hung at Perry, Georgia, last Wednesday. The story of the Woolfolk murder is known throughout our country to be one of the most brutal and bloodiest tragedies ever committed in the annals of Georgia’s history From the time of his arrest to the moment of his execution he claimed that he was an innocent man. Whether he was innocent or not he and his Maker only knows, but the general opinion of all who heard of the testimony in the case is that he was surely guilty. On the day before his execution he made the following statement which was read on the scaffold just before the drop fell: I, Thomas G. Woolfolk, realizing the existence of an infinite, wise and holy God, so as to meet Him, knowing all that I have ever done, and fully understanding that I must stand before the judgment bar of God, and that today , in a few hours, I shall be called into His presence, do solemnly declare my innocence, and I leave as my last declaration that I did not take the life of my father, or any member of his family, or have any knowledge of the person or persons who did the murderous deed.
