GEORGIA STATE News

The trial of Tom Woolfolk of Macon, Ga., for the murder of his father and 
eight members of his family, with the particulars of which horrible crime 
our readers are familiar, closed last week. The jury, after an absence of 
twenty minutes, returned a verdict of guilty on all the counts, and the 
prisoner was sentenced to be hanged on the 10th of February next. The 
evidence, though strong, was entirely circumstantial, and there are some who 
do not believe Woolfolk guilty. A motion for a new trial has been made. 
Woolfolk again declared his innocence after the verdict had been rendered, 
and said that some of the witnesses swore falsely.
