CALLAWAY Spark From and Open Fireplace Sets Her Clothing on Fire ONE OF CITY'S OLDEST WOMEN Born in 1832, She Had Resided in Macon Fifty Years. Mrs. Ann V. Callaway, aged 88 years, member of one of the most prominent families of Macon, died yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from burns received on Saturday afternoon when her clothing was ignited by a spark from an open fire place. Mrs. Callaway was seated near the grate, with knitting in hand, and was left alone only for a minute. When her clothing caught fire she cried for help and her daughter Miss Annie Callaway, responded, beating out the flames. Special prayers for the recovery of Mrs. Callaway were said in several of the churches yesterday morning. The burns were not considered of a fatal nature, but because of the advanced age of Mrs. Callaway and the fright that she sustained, she gradually sank during yesterday. Mrs. Callaway was born in Greenville, Ga., on December 17, 1832, and had been a resident of Macon nearly fifty years. She was the widow of C. B. Callaway, who died in Macon more than twenty years ago. Besides many relatives in Macon and throughout the State of Georgia, Mrs. Callaway leaves in her immediate family, by a sister, Mrs. Orrie Flanders; her two daughters, Mrs. Tero Amos and Miss Annie Callaway; one granddaughter, Mrs. E. Nat Lewis and one great grandson, N. Logan Lewis, all of this city. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the residence, corner of Vineville and Corbin avenues, and the services will be conducted by the Rev. Martin A. Wood, pastor of the Vineville Baptist church, and Rev. William Russell Owen, pastor of the First Baptist church. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
