Friday, April 19, 1867 Page 3. DEATH OF A GOOD CITIZEN. We regret to learn of the death of William B. Carter, Esq., of Putnam county. He died on Saturday, 13th instant after an illness of a few days. Mr. Carter was for over thirty yearsd an officer of the county, first a Clerk of the Inferior Court and Court of Ordinary, and since the creation of the office of Ordinary, he filled that position. He was thus identified with the interests of the people generally, and was over attentive to his duties, discharging them to the satisfaction of the citizens, who, when party excitement was at its highest, re-elected him to the position, though differing with the majority. He was courteous to all, freely advising those who had business with him. Though not a lawyer, he was well versed in the principles governing the character of cases within his jurisdiction. He will be remembered long by many who have known him, and his place cannot easily be supplied--Macon Telegraph. Additional Comments: Compiler Notes: The Hon.
