In the prime of manhood, with a circle of friends as large as the range of his acquaintango, the community in which he lives has lost a citizen whose sterling qualities made him a man to be loved and respected. He was buried at Liberty church with Masonic ceremonies and one of the largest corteges of friends known in the district followed the remains to the last resting place. A number of citizens of Macon attended the funeral, among them George R.Barker, Esq., Grand Master of the Macon Lodge, who conducted the ceremonies. Mr. Cherry leaves a wife and one child, the latter born only twenty-four hours before its father's death. The afflicted family have the sympathy of our entire community. Additional Comments: John M.Cherry was the son of Joel Thomas Cherry and Susan Council McCallum Cherry. He was born in Bibb County on November 17, 1848. He was married to Frances "Fannie" Dozier. The surviving son was also named John Myrick Cherry. He later chose Sr as a suffix when his son John Myrick Cherry Jr. was born in 1910. His grandson is John Myrick Cherry III.
