Coleman Dies At 50; Was Educator, Civic Leader Services for Roger Benjamin Coleman, 50, of 10 Ben Lippen School Road, Asheville, who died Monday, will be held at 11am Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The Revs. Calvin Thielman and Jack Beaver will officiate. Graveside rites will be conducted at 2:30pm Friday in Macon Memorial Park, Macon, Ga. Coleman, a native of Macon, Ga., had resided in Rabun Gap, Ga. before moving to Buncombe County in 1978. At the time of his death, he was assistant to the headmaster at Ben Lippen school. He was a former director of development at Montreal Anderson College for two years and also was assistant to the president at Rabun Gap Nacoochee School in Georgia. He was a member of West Asheville Rotary Club, where he served as vice president, chairman of the Sunshine Committee and derby director of the Soap Box Derby for 1983. He was a member of Montreal Presbyterian Church and a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. He was the son of the late Berry Wiley Sr. and Sallie Belle Poston Coleman. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Williams Coleman; a daughter, Valerie C. Davis of the home; three sons, Mark Coleman of Rabun Gap, Ken Coleman of Swannaroa and Scott Coleman of the home; two sisters, Doris K. Horton of Macon and Jackie Smothers of St. Louis; two brothers, Wiley Coleman of Cayce, SC and Jimmy Coleman of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three granddaughters. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the scholarship fune at Ben Lippen School, Ben Lippen Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Additional Comments: Roger was born 31 Mar 1932. His wife, Jeanette Williams Coleman Hutto is also buried at Macon Memorial Park.
