DEATH FROM SUDDEN STROKE OF APOPLEXY
Charles J. Cushman Was Stricken While at Southern Depot Yesterday Afternoon and
Died Soon Afterward.
Charles J. Cushman was suddenly stricken while waiting at the Southern depot
yesterday afternoon and died within an hour at the city hospital.
The immediate cause of death was apoplexy. Mr. Cushman had been at the depot for
several hours and appeared to be interested in viewing the passengers as the
came and went. While standing on the walk watching a train which was to leave at
4:20 he was seen to fall upon the curbing. Bystanders rushed to his side and
attempted to assist him to his feet, but it was seen that he was deathly ill.
When removed from the walk to the waiting room at the depot, blood encircled the
eyes and issued from the mouth. Medical assistance was summoned immediately and
an ambulance was hurried to the station. By the time Mr. Cushman was placed in
the hospital he expired having failed to rally after the stroke.
Coroner Young held an inquest immediately after the death and after going over
the incidents surrounding the man at the time of his sudden illness the decision
reached by the jury was that he came to his death from appoplexy.
Mr. Cushman was 35 years old and the son of the late Dr.Cushman of Columbus.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the residence
of Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Tindall, 161 Rose street. The services will be conducted by
Rev. J. G. Harrison and the intermnet will be in Riverside cemetery beside the
lamented mother.
