She was a member of the First Baptist church, Macon, Ga. Though comparatively a young woman, she possessed great ripeness of spiritual life and a rich Christian experience. She reflected from her character the likeness of her divine Lord, so clearly and so constantly, as to endear her to a wide circle of loving friends, and convince many of the beauty, excellency and power of Christianity. She was a shining type of all those virtues that crown the nature of woman and make her the choicest gift of Heaven to this world. A devoted, self-sacrificing wife and mother, she laid her bright, young life as a free-will offering on the altar of her affection for husband and children. As a daughter and sister, in every relation of life and sphere of action, she was a noble example of fidelity to duty. In her death, her Christian hope won a glorious triumph. Faith in Christ irradiated her last hour with celestial splendor, as evening's stars gem the darkening sky. Her dying words, "Almost home!" point our eyes to her mansion in the skies, and linger in our ears as a strain of that song now sung by her ransomed spirit in glory. Her name will live as a fadeless flower in the loving remembrance of those who could appreciate her worth, and inspire them to emulate her virtues. For her, no more the long dark night of pain, To her, no more shall sorrow come again, In yon sweet heaven, where suffering is unknown, Eternal health and joy are now her own. She ne'er shall feel temptation's fiery breath, No more shall walk the shadowy vale of death; Her soul is safe from Satan's cruel snares, A crown of life her happy spirit wears. Beyond earth's storms and darkness she hath passed, Within the vail she hath her anchor cast; Her voyage now o'er, the heavenly port now won, Her spirit hears the welcome word, "Well done!" V. C.
