N. (Bill) "Chief" Elliott, 87, died Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in a local hospital. Funeral services were held at 11A.M. Friday, October 26th at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Ron Holland officiated. The family may be contacted at the residence. -Mr. Elliott, son of the late William H. and Alice Pierce Elliott, was born in Carter County, TN and attended public schools there. He was a member of the Tattnall Square Presbyterian Church. Mr. Elliott enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1968. During his twenty-seven years of service, he received two Purple Heart Medals while serving in the South Pacific. He had made his home in Georgia since retirement and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 658, the American Legion, D.A.V., F.R.P. and Loyal Order of the Moose. After retiring, he worked at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in engineering, Idle Hour County Club, Wesleyan College and the Masonic Children's Home. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Elliott, a son, Norman Elliott, a daughter, Susan Swink, three sisters, Nadine Scott, Grace Murphy and Louise Spitz. -Survivors include his wife, Betty R.
