Family visitation was held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Funeral services were at 11 A.M., Monday, June 11, 2007 in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, with burial in Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jones County. Rev. Johnny Watts and Rev. John Irwin officiated. Mrs. Foster, the daughter of the late James Wesley Hollis and Mary Jane Tidwell Hollis, was born on December 12, 1926, in Macon and had lived most of her life in Jones County. She attended Mercer University, earned her Bachelor of Science from Georgia State College for Women and earned her Master's and Specialist's degrees from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Foster began her career teaching the second grade at Griswold Elementary School and eventually retired as a school media specialist with the Bibb County Board of Education. -A faithful member of Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church for many years, she was an honorary member and first president of the Pitts Chapel United Methodist Women and was a Sunday School teacher. -Mrs. Foster was a member of the University of Georgia Alumni Association, the Bibb Retired Educators Association, the Georgia Retired Teachers Association, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Kappa Delta Pi (International Honor Society of Educators), Kappa Kappa Iota (Chi Chapter) and the Georgia Library Association. She was also a member of the Oliver Morton Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution and the Georgia Cameo Society. -Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bailey Foster. -Mrs. Foster is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Rita Foster of Jones County; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Steve Grimes, Nancy and Victor Clay and Mary and Johnny Watts, all of Jones County; sisters and brothers-in-law, Velma and B.C. Brantley of Dublin and Pat and John Murray; and by twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. -In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church, 132 Pitts Chapel Road, Macon, Georgia 31217, or to the American Cancer Society, Post Office Box 4406, Macon, Georgia 31208. -The family may be contacted at the residence at 129 Foster Road in Jones County. -Bridges Funeral Home in Gray has charge of arrangements. -Please visit the online memorial at www.bridgesfh.com.
