Walter M. (sic) Mitchell, in his life time one of Georgia's most prominent and successful planters, died in Atlanta yesterday and the remains will be brought to Macon this morning, via the Central railroad at 10:20 for interment in Rose Hill cemetery. Mrs. Mitchell was 84 years of age. She was the mother of the first wife of Chief Justice Jackson and closely related to the Cobb family of Macon. Of her death the Atlanta Journal says: Yesterday afternoon, Mrs. C. D. Mitchell, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of Atlanta, passed peacefully away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. J. G. Scrutchins, on West Peachtree street. Than Mrs. Mitchell where not a more estimable lady in this city (sic). She was a member of one of the best known families of the state. She was 85 years old. For some time she had been in declining health, but not until yesterday afternoon did death come like the setting of a summer day's sun-calmly and peacefully. Mrs. Mitchell was not only well known in Atlanta, but throughout the state. She was a relative of Mrs. James Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. J G Scrutchins, Mrs. Alla Rawson, Miss Mary L. Jackson and Mrs. W M Sk__ton. The funeral will occur from the residence at 4 o'clock this afternoon and the body will be carried to Macon for interment. The pallbearers will be J W Cabaniss, W R Rogers, W A Redding, C B Willingham, E D Huguenin, R F Burden. Rev. J W Burke will conduct the services at the grave.
