James R. Hays, deceased, died at her home in Macon Monday evening Sept. 7th, after a lingering illness from cancer of the lungs. Mrs. Hays was a pure Christian woman whose rest will be sweet in Heaven after a long life of toil and labor here upon Earth. She had many friends, relatives and acquaintances in this community who will regret to learn of her death. Her remains were interred in the cemetery at the campground on Wednesday. The Butler Herald Tuesday, September 15, 1896 Page Three Bryon, Ga., Sept. 14 – Mrs. M.A. Hays departed this life in Macon Sept. 7, 1896. Her remains were carried to Hays campground near Butler and interred in the family burial lot by the side of her husband and children. Mrs. Hays was a lovable Christian woman. In her death, we have lost a friend, and an only daughter a sweet mother. She died as she had lived, ready and willing when the silent messenger came.
