His brother, from Americus, who is said to be quite wealthy, was in attendance. Bailey was a gambler, it is said and recently went broke. When his room was broken into, a note to his mother and one to his brother were found. He had written to his mother: “To My Dear Mother: Taking all things into consideration, I think this is the best way, so goodbye. I’ll meet you in the sweet by and by.” To his brother, Walter Bailey, he requested that his death be made certain before burial. Bailey was 46 years of age.
