It seems as if McCall and his wife had some disagreement as to the renting of a room for the night to some parties who had applied for that purpose. Mrs. McCall had agreed to rent the room to the gentlemen; and it angered the aged husband, who was in a drunken stupor, and he got his shotgun and fired the load of shot in the back of his wife who was lying in bed. The wounded woman was rushed to the hospital, but died without making any statement as to why her husband shot her. McCall is 71 years old and is now confined in the Bibb County jail awaiting the action of the Coroners inquest. We are informed that the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McCall is Mrs. Irene Mangham of Jacksonville, Fla., who is the wife of Mr. James Mangham, youngest son of Mr. J.O. Mangham, at one time a prominent citizen of this county. =========== The Butler Herald Tuesday, December 19, 1911 Page Four State News Roger McCall, 70 years old and a confederate veteran, pleaded guilty to murdering his wife in Macon Superior Court Tuesday and was sentenced to the penitentiary for life.
