Raffield, 78, died Thursday June 12, 1997 in a local hospital. Born in Dublin, he was the son of the late John W. and Irma C. Raffield. He had lived in Macon since 1942 and was founder and owner of Raffield Tire Master. He was one of the founding members, member emeritus and past president of the Georgia Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association. He was a member and deacon at Tattnall Square Baptist Church and the Bailey Mozo Sunday School Class. He was a former song leader and deacon at Elim Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Myrtice Chance Raffield; children, Bill Raffield, Samuel J, Raffield, and Colista Raffield Battle, all of Macon; brother and sisters, Zenus W. Raffield of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Gladys Jones of Tifton, Thelma Beckworth of Sumter, SC, and Jessie Wilkes of Rockledge; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight in Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue, and may be contacted at 1101 Hill Place, Macon 31210.
