Aug. 10 – Thrown head downward from a seat in a recreation park bus on Main Street at Dunlap’s hill Sunday afternoon at six o’clock, and hanging by one foot, her head dragging over the concrete pavement, Mrs. Mary Shuler, aged 35, widow, of 303 Hill Street, east Macon, suffered a fractured skull from which she died at the Macon hospital an hour later. The accident occurred when George M. Leary, driver of the bus, tried to avoid a collision with a Studebaker six, which was coming toward Macon at high speed, the bus swung into a ditch and the back fender struck a post, the driver said. Mrs. Shuler was sitting on a rear seat next to a door of the bus, and when the machine swerved against the post she was flung headfirst out of the machine. Her foot caught over the door and she was dragged about thirty feet. There were six other passengers in the machine, none of whom were injured. Mrs. Shuler was taking her guest, Mrs. H.B. Finney, of Atlanta to the recreation club to spend the evening.
