Dec. 16 – The funeral of Judge Emory Speer, the distinguished Georgia jurist who died Friday night following an operation, was held this afternoon from the Vineville Methodist church here, Dr. Bascomb Anthony, the pastor, officiating. The services had been postponed from Sunday, owing to the inability of some of the relatives to arrive in time. The funeral was attended by a large concourse of friends, including a number of prominent Georgians. Judge Samuel H. Sibley, of Union Point, had appointed an escort of several members of the Georgia Bar Association. Judge Speer was born in Monroe County, Georgia in 1848. He served in the Civil War. Since 1885 he had been United States judge for the Southern district of Georgia. He also achieved note as a lecturer and writer.
