Whitby, 79, died Thursday morning at Heartland Hospice Facility. Graveside services will be held at 1P.M., Saturday in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve Womack officiating. The family will meet friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue and may be contacted at the residence. They suggest that those who wish may make memorial contributions to The ARC, 4664 Sheraton Drive, Macon 31210 or to St. Andrews Christian Church, 6220 Thomaston Road, Macon 31220. -Mr. Whitby, son of the late Elam and Lona Harper Whitby, was born in Warren Plains, NC and had lived in Macon most of his life. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and was a member of Harrison Road V.F.W. Mr. Whitby was retired from Robins Air Force Base, was a very active volunteer with ARC and was a former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 203, Macon. He was a member of St. Andrews Christian Church. -Survivors include his wife, Margaret Proctor Whitby of Macon; his children, Wayne Whitby, Rita Whitby and Sara Whitby, all of Macon and Donald (Debbie) Whitby of Byron; his brothers, Carlton Whitby and Jack Whitby of North Carolina; his grandson, Phillip Whitby; two step grandchildren, Eric Gooding and Misty Gooding; several nieces and nephews. - Visit www.mem.com to express tributes. -Snow's Memorial Chapel Funeral and Cremation Services, Pio Nono Avenue has charge of arrangements.
