Young, 1674 Second Street, for sixteen years an engineer on the Central of Georgia railway, was killed: Tom Wood, of Macon, His white fireman, was seriously hurt, while six others mostly members of the train crew, were slightly injured, when passenger train No. 11 leaving Macon at 3:10 o'clock Sunday morning was derailed near Fitzpatrick, Ala, about twenty five miles this side of Montgomery, about 10 o'clock yesterday morning. Those said to have been slightly injured are: The Injured E. G. Fields, express messenger, Montgomery H. Barlow, news agent, 101 St. John Street, Macon H. R. Davis, baggagemaster E. J. Engineer Young was crushed to death under his engine and it was some time before his body could be recovered. The fireman, Tom Wood, was able to jump and thereby escaped serious injury. The fact that the train was not heavily loaded with passengers and the two passenger coaches did not overturn accounts for the few persons injured. DUE TO WASHOUT The wreck was due to a washout, just before the train reached a small trestle, which Engineer Young was unable to see before it was too late to stop the train. The train was in charge of Conductor J. N. Steed, 819 Oak Street, one of the best known conductors in the employ of the Central railway. He was not injured. Following the wreck, wreckers were sent from Montgomery and Columbus and the debris was cleared and the track opened for traffic about 7 o'clock last night. FIREMAN WOOD SERIOUSLY HURT.
