This is a photo of my grandfather Mark Newman Holmes, Jr. He was a Macon 
Auxillary Police Officer for a time. Due to a childhood bout with polio (which 
later required his hip to be totally fused on one side), he was unable to serve 
as a regular officer, but wanted to help in whatever capacity he could. I 
remember riding with him on a citizen patrol of the downtown Macon area in the 
1980's during the Christmas season. We rode in his personal car and patrolled a 
pre-determined grid of the city and looked for suspicious activity around local 
businesses from about 9pm until sometimes midnight or later.
