The sign says Discover Linwood Historic Cemetery, Est. 1800's. See the Historic Afro- American Cemetery Now! Before it's too late to see it. WE CARE GROUP. Additional Comments: The Linwood cemetery is one of the largest black cemeteries in Bibb County. It has never been documented before that I am aware of and could not find any documentation. Mercer University students, under the leadership of Professor Randy Harshbarger, endeavored to write a tribute to fifteen (15) individuals who contributed to the Pleasant Hill Community or touched the lives of people in this community in an extraordinary way. The undertaking by the Mercer students was put in booklet form and was named "Climbing The Hill" a tribute to Sons and Daughters of Pleasant Hill. The Pleasant Hill Community are in the process, though it's going slow, of cleaning the Linwood cemetery. There are several well recognized names from the Pleasant Hill community who are buried in this cemetery. Some of these individuals gained recognition from deeds they accomplished during their lifetime. There is a Medal of Honor recipient, Rodney Maxwell Davis as well as the first black man killed in World War II from Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. He was at Pearl Harbor and was killed in the assault by the Japanese on that fateful day. He was George Vining and he gave the sacrifice no family wants to be notified about at home. I will be telling some of the stories of these individuals as I enter them.
