She was the daughter of Dr. L.H. Smith and Mrs. Hester Love Smith. She had two sisters, Miss Lovia Smith of Macon(mentioned in an earlier entry) and Mrs. Roberta Colclough of Cordele, Georgia. She had two nieces, Mrs Minnie J. Turner of Montezuma and Miss Mattie J. Ellison of Chicago, Illinois. Her two nephews were Mr. L.H. Smith and Harold S. Johnson of New York. Minnie Lee Smith was educated in Macon, Ga. and at the University of Chicago. She was a public school teacher in Bibb County and she began the Beda Etta College in 1920. It was named for her two sisters Beda and Etta which are nicknames for Roberta and Lovia Smith. The school was erected on Grant Avenue located in the Pleasant Hill Community. The building site is now used as a parking lot for the Community Church of God, which is located across the street from Linwood cemetery. She did many things for the community and was well thought of by the people of the community.
