A Telephone Marriage

Steve McKenna, Clerk of the Recorder’s Court, and Miss Annie Ruth Mathews, 
operator in the City Hall telephone exchange, were married at St. Joseph’s 
Catholic Church at Macon, Ga., ending a brief acquaintance and courtship, begun 
and conducted over the telephone.  They left for Atlanta for their honeymoon.  
It was a runaway match.  Mr. McKenna not only met Miss Mathews through the 
medium of the phone, but also proposed over the wires.
