McGee, was married last week in Macon to Miss M. Chawin*. Mr. and Mrs. McGee left immediately for New Orleans where Mr. McGee has accepted a splendid position. While the bride is a stranger to our people, Mr. McGee is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. McGee, of this city and has hosts of friends here who have watched with interest his continued success in the business world. The Herald joins friends and relatives of the happy, young couple in wishing them a long life of marital happiness. *Please note in the following article, the bride's name is corrected from Chawin to Pliz. The Butler Herald Tuesday, September 10, 1912 Page Three Rescues Bride From Hands of “Mob” With only the family of the minister present, Miss Martha Pliz and E.L. McGee were married last night at the Vineville Methodist Church parsonage, Rev. J.T. Ryder officiating. The young couple will go for a short honeymoon trip of about one week, after which they will be home to their friends at 212 Second Street. Scenting that something important was being enacted inside the parsonage last night, a large crowd of young people of the neighborhood, equipped with tin cans, rice and other articles capable of being hurled, were at the sidewalk ready to pounce onto the young couple and express their congratulations. Though considerably embarrassed over the fun of their friends the couple were glad when they were able to hail an automobile and be saved from the mob by W.W. Means, who carried them to the hotel. – Macon Telegraph The Herald in the last issue published an account of Mr. McGee’s marriage, but the name of the bride was incorrect, the reported being misinformed. The above is taken from the Macon Telegraph which appeared in that paper a day or two after the wedding event. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
