Windham, of Butler, which was received here some days ago, was a surprise to his many friends, but following the interesting announcement hearty good wishes of abundant friends are extended the happy couple. Mr. Windham has been holding a fine position at Macon for a number of months, during which time he met Miss Califf. Friendship of the couple soon ripened into love resulting in their marriage at Brunswick last week, an account of which is contained in the following from the Brunswick paper: “A double marriage replete with romance and which was solemnized Wednesday night has just managed to creep to the surface, so successfully had the contracting parties managed to keep the affair a secret.” “About a week ago, so the story goes, two attractive young Macon ladies left their homes to spend a short time on the seacoast and selected St. Simons Island holding out more attractions than any other. And so to St. Simons they came.” “A few days later two popular young men of Macon concluded to spend several days at the seaside resort and selected St. Simon as being themost attractive – and to St. Simons they journeyed.” “When the boat reached the pier at the island Monday morning Mr. Jesse B. Hodges and Mr. James J. Windham, Jr., of Macon, were happily greeted by Misses Mabel Willis and Glynn M. Califf, also of Macon. “The young couples were seen frequently together, and made many friends among the guests on the island by their genial personalities. It was noticed that the couples were becoming more devoted as the hours went by, but it was thought by interested ones to be only a summer flirtation.” “Without any intimation of what was to be the object of a little trip over to Brunswick, Mr. Hodges and Miss Willis and Mr. Windham and Miss Califf boarded the boat Wednesday noon for this city. In the evening they repaired to the residence of Mr. Lacy McKinnon, where they found Rev. S.J. Cartledge, supply pastor of the First Presbyterian church, and requested that he perform the ceremony for them. The knot was tied in a most pleasing manner by the minister and in a few minutes the happy couples were on their way to catch a boat for their return trip to the island where they will spend their honeymoons. “The only announcement the newlyweds will give out is: No cards, no cake, nobody’s business.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/bibb/vitals/marriages/willis2244mr.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 3.2 Kb
