Mercer died in Virginia August 31, 1861 (These dates copied from an old Bible published in 1828 now in possession of Mary Mercer, who belonged to the Mercers. She was bought with her mother by Mrs. Mercer at Ft. Gaines, Ga. And lived there many years. This Bible was given Mary Mercer by Miss Hattie Patterson of Bainbridge, Ga. upon the death of Mr. E. A. Thompson, September 1906.
