Edmund Botsford was born at Woburn, Bedfordshire, England, in 1745 - left an orphan at seven years of age. He was sent to board with Mrs. Barnes, an intimate friend of his mother's, with whom he attended meetings at a Baptist church.... He left England for Charleston, South Carolinan in 1766. There he was baptized, and later licensed to preach... He finally concluded to leave Charleston... Near Tuckaseeking, a settlement about forty miles from Savannah, in Georgia, were a few Baptist, who constitued a branch of the Euhaw church... Hearing of Mr. Botsford, they invited him to come over and help them...
