CLEMENTS The Representative from the Seventh Georgia Congressional District is Judson C. Clements, of Lafayette, who was born in the county of Walker, in that State, February 12, 1846, and is the son of Dr. Adams Clements and Mary W. H. [Park] Clements, who were both natives of Georgia. Judson C. was prevented by the Civil War from obtaining a thorough education, but succeeded in acquiring a tolerable knowledge of the English branches in the schools of Walker County. In 1864 he entered the Confederate army as a private, and was subsequently promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant. He was wounded, July 22d of that year, in a battle near Atlanta. In 1868 he commenced the study of law at the Cumberland University, was admitted to the Bar at Lafayette, and commenced practice at that place. In 1871 he was County School Commissioner. In 1872 he was elected Representative to the State legislature of Georgia for two years, and in 1874 was re-elected. In 1877 he was elected State Senator from the Forty-fourth Senatorial District. On the 26th day of August, 1881, he was nominated for Representative to the Forty-seventh Congress, and was elected as a Democrat. Ref: Headley, P. C., PUBLIC MEN OF TO-DAY, 1882, S. S.
