Citizens Request That Ordinance Legalizing the Sale of Near Beer Be Revoked. The following petition has been presented to the city council requesting that body to revoke the ordinance legalizing the sale of near beer in Hawkinsville: To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of Hawkinsville: In as much as the amount of drunkenness in our city us steadily increasing and a number of persons at different times have testified in police court that their intoxications resulted from drinking so called 'Near beer" and similar alcoholic drinks, convinced that the sale of them is a menace to the good morals and well being of our city, as well as rendering null and void the purpose of the state prohibition law, we, the undersigned, petition your body to revoke the ordinance legalizing the traffic in said alcoholics for the payment of a hundred dollars and to pass one raising it to ten thousand dollars.
