Mr. W.N. Buchan and Mr. W.H.Collins, brothers-in-laws, and well known farmers of this county, were killed at six o'clock Tuesday morning near Cochran, about three miles east of Hawkinsville, in the community which both men lived. It is said, Collins was a cropper on Buchan's place, and that bad feelings had existed between them for some time as the result of a family dispute. Buchan went to the home of Collins early Tuesday morning when the quarrel was renewed and Collins shot down Buchan with a shot gun, the shot striking him in the head and killing him almost instantly. Collins was then shot through the head by Herman Doolittle, a young man about nineteen years old, who worked with Mr. Buchan. Doolittle claims that Collins was trying to kill him and that he was forced to shoot him in self defense. He came to town immediately after the killing and surrendered to the sheriff. Both of the dead men's wives, who are sisters, were present and witnessed the deplorable affair. Mr. Buchan is survived by his wife, two brothers, J.B.A. Buchan, of this city, and Gus Buchan, of Oklahoma, and three sisters, Mrs. H.M. Allen, Mrs. Nan Davis, of Bleckley County and Mrs. Alex Hogg, of Pulaski County. Mr. Collins leaves a wife and one sister, Mrs.W.J.Z.Beatty, of Hawkinsville, and two brothers, Mr.Charlie Collins, of this county, and Mr.Gus Collins, of Macon. The remains of both men will be interred in the Pipkin graveyard on Chicken road this Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock.Rev.Mr.Herringto n, of Macon, will conduct the funeral service.
