Linda Davis Giddens was struck by a car while standing near her mailbox on the side of the road. Giddens had crossed Georgia 87 to get her mail about 11:30 when a 1971 Ford Galaxy 500, driven by Rita Brown of Cochran, left the road traveling north, struck three mailboxes and hit Mrs. Giddens. She was dragged under the car as it continued to travel north through a ditch, crossed County Road 164 and travelled several feet before coming to a stop. According to State Trooper K. T. Blue, Dublin State Patrol Post 20, Giddens was dragged under the car to the north edge of County Road 164. Brown, age 40, has been charged with vehicular homocide, driving under the influence and no proof of insurance. Blood and urine tests are pending notification by the State Crime Lab of Macon. Brown was treated at Bleckley Memorial Hospital and released into the custody of Trooper Blue. Blue released Brown to the custody of the Bleckley County Sheriff's Department. According to Bleckley Deputy Bill Bessenbacher, Brown had had open heart surgery and other medical problems. She was transported to the crisis center in Dublin and then to Central State Hospital in Milledgeville where she was at press time. Brown will have to be processed for bond upon her dismissal, according to Sheriff Edward Coley Jr. The 1971 Ford Galaxy 500 involved belongs to Doretha Harris. Harris had loaned the vehicle to Brown. Harris was also issued a citation for no proof of insurance, according to Trooper Blue. Giddens is urvived by her husband, David E. Giddens of Cochran and two daughters, Amy and Robin Giddens, among other relatives. Page 10 Mrs. Linda Davis Giddens Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Davis Giddens, age 30, Route 1 Cochran, who died Thursday morning, May 25, 1989 from injuries received when she was struck by an automobile, were held Saturday, May 27, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home with Rev. Wyndell Hamrick and Rev. Buford Raffield officiating. Burial was in the Giddens Family Cemetery in Dodge County. Mrs. Giddens was a native of and had lived in Bleckley County most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors are her husband, David E. Giddens of Cochran; two daughters, Miss Amy Giddens and Miss Robin Giddens, both of Cochran; her mother, Mrs. Rosa Davis of Eastman; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bryant of Chester; two brothers, Edward Davis of Macon and Joe Davis of Mitchell; her mother-in-law and father -in-law, Quency Giddens of Alamo; and a number of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Earl Giddens, Kenny Giddens, Wendell Fordham, Benny Dixon, Roy Jackson, and Jack Davidson. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Barnett, Billy Collins, and Neil Dixon.
