(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net August 13, 2013, 8:23 pm The Cochran Journal 10-27-1932 FP BLECKLEY COUNTY FARMER SHOT AT PUBLIC SALE Old Feud is Said To Have Been Cause of Shooting Levi Hinson, 43 years old Bleckley County farmer was shot and instantly killed by Cleveland Cannon, another farmer, at a public sale on the Caroline Tripp place near Salem about 9 o'clock Monday morning. There were several witnessess, but the shooting was so unexpected that none could intervene. The trouble is said to have been an old feud which culminated in the shooting when the two men met. Hinson was shot four times, three shots striking in the abdomen and one in the leg. Cannon is being held in the Bleckley County jail on a charge of murder. Hinson was buried at Salem on Tuesday afternoon, Revs. Chance and Bryan conducting the services, with members of the Macon and Cochran American Legion posts assisting. T. W. Fisher was the undertaker in charge. He is survived by his wife who was Miss Eva Hobbs and three children, Deloris, Wallace, and Marion; also two brothers and two sisters. Pallbearers were: Legion companions J. P. Taylor, W. L. Harris, O. F. Crumpler, C. Davis, W. H. Giddens, J. D. Paddegg, J. W. Bracewell, and C. M. Thompson. Additional Comments: Levi was born 29 Mar 1889 to William H. "Will" Hinson and Georgia Anne Howell Hinson. Georgia death certificate #25714. He is buried at Pleasant Olive Cemetery near Chester in Dodge County along with his wife, Eva Hobbs Hinson.
